How to Mix Curing Agent and Paint? Learn Step by Step Without Mistakes!

When painting, the curing agent can make the paint dry faster and more durable, but problems will occur if the ratio is not adjusted properly. Follow the steps, and even beginners can handle it easily~

I. Step 1: Check the Ratio First, Don’t Rely on Feeling

The ratio of curing agent to paint is not fixed—you must read the product manual! Different brands and types of paint (such as wood paint, wall paint) have different ratios, commonly 10:1 (paint:curing agent), 8:1, or even 5:1. For example, wood paint is often 10:1, and wall paint may be 8:1. Never mix blindly based on experience—too little curing agent will make the paint dry slowly and easy to stick to hands; too much will make the paint brittle and crack, which is a waste of effort.

II. Prepare Tools: Only 3 Things Are Needed

No complicated tools are required—common ones at home or on the construction site are enough: first, a clean empty container (plastic or metal, not oily) to mix paint and curing agent; second, a stirring rod (wooden stick, plastic stick is okay, smooth and non-shedding); third, a measuring cup (with scales, such as 500ml, 1000ml, accurate measurement is essential). After preparation, wipe the container and stirring rod clean first to avoid impurities affecting the paint effect.

III. Step-by-Step Mixing: Pour Paint First, Then Add Curing Agent

When mixing, follow the order of "paint first, agent later": Step 1, measure the paint with a measuring cup and pour it into the empty container; Step 2, calculate the amount of curing agent according to the manual ratio. For example, if 1000ml of paint is poured and the ratio is 10:1, add 100ml of curing agent; Step 3, stir slowly clockwise with a stirring rod for at least 1-2 minutes to ensure the two are completely mixed evenly, without sediment or flocculent substances—otherwise, there will be lumps when painting.

IV. Precautions: Safe and Effective

Finally, remember 3 key points: first, mix and use immediately. The adjusted paint should be used up within 2-4 hours (see the manual for details). It will solidify if left for a long time and cannot be used; second, ventilated environment. Open the window when mixing, do not work in a closed space to avoid inhaling harmful gases; third, tool cleaning. Clean the used measuring cup and stirring rod with thinner (selected according to the manual) in time, so they can be used again next time.
